Kinsonwood Open

Venue

The Kinsonwood Open started in 1983 as a Singles Tournament, with Doubles contested the first time in 1986.  The Tournament started at Five Acres and moved to Charnwood in (not sure exactly when - would appreciate if someone could mail in and let me know).

This Tournament was unique in that it comprised Singles alongside the usual Doubles competitions a real challenge for those taking part.

In 2007 after the Tournament it was agreed that due to the state of the courts, Charnwood was no longer a viable option for playing an Open Tournament and to keep the history of the event going it was decided that the Doubles part would be competed for on a new date at Diogenes in July.  However, if a club from the North would like to run a Tournement, then maybe if there are more travelling South we could move this up North.

Alongside the decision to run the Doubles at Diogenes, the Naturist Foundation offered to take on the Kinsonwood singles and run this alongside the popular Stanley Watkins Open.  In doing so the Stanley Watkins moved to the original date of the Kinsonwood so that the singles could take place, on the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend.
